Just another BA Rant about nothing - April 2, 2004
Last week, I attended a meeting of the La Jolla Community Planning Association.
- Topic -
The new La Jolla Shores Lifeguard Station and emergency vehicle parking
[ two years - and about $350,000 - have gone into the planning of the station]
"Waaaaaaaaaaa, we're gonna lose a few parking places!"
The Shores needs hundreds, if not thousands of additional parking places - so what's the big deal about losing a few if the lifeguard facilities are improved?
Nobody complained when the Sea Lodge was built over an existing parking lot - well maybe someone did, but I don't know who it was.
I took these La Jolla Shores parking lot photos on Monday, March 28th at approximately 5:00 PM - not one open parking place - and it ain't even Spring Break yet, much less summer.
"Waaaaaaaaaa, it's too expensive! I'm a contractor, I know what it costs to build stuff!"
Dude, contractor, where were you two years ago when the process started?
Your beef is with the San Diego City Council, not with the lifeguards and the architects!
"Waaaaaaaaaa, they [the city, the lifeguards, the architects, Bush, Cheney, Gore, Clinton, Monica, the Surf Divas, BA] ALL lied to us!"
They lied? Got any proof?
Sounds like you got grounds for a lawsuit - if in fact they did lie to you.
"Waaaaaaaaaa, they're gonna ruin our $5 million ocean view!"
Just look at the photos of The Shores from just a few years ago - how many ocean views have been totally ruined.
Your ocean views will remain, they're just gonna be a little different.
"Waaaaaaaaaa, the lifeguards don't need a new station at The Shores, why don't we just build a new one at Torrey Pines?"
Yeah - you guys know more than the lifeguards regarding the need for present and future lifeguard facilities. This kindda sounds like a "not in my back yard" line of crapola.
"Waaaaaaaaaa, I don't want any change at The Shores!"
Please tell me how you're gonna stop change - I think it's maybe time for you to pack your bags, sell your $5 million house, and move to Boise, Idaho.
What a bunch of windbags on both sides of the aisle ...perfect examples of:
The last one to move into the community, is the first one to sign the petition to limit community growth!
By the way 1 -
I'm not pro-city, I just did not hear ONE compelling argument against the new tower - I just heard a bunch of crapola, based on anecdotal bs, greed, and emotions.
By the way 2 -
I think that JR acted like the professional he is - the behavior of a few of the others at the meeting?????
By the way 3 -
I've been picking up broken glass etc. in the parking lot for 50 years.
The only time I see an effort to keep the lot clean - especially by most the members of the La Jolla Shores Surfing Association, or whatever it's called, is when there's a photo opportunity.
So....I've got some suggestions:
1. Paint ALL the curbs red at The Shores, or limit parking to two hours on every street between the sea wall and the east side of La Jolla Shores Drive.
2. Install parking meters in the La Jolla Shores parking lot -
3. Hire a private security force to help enforce the existing laws at the Shores.
4. The meters would be in effect approximately:
Heavy users of the lot - monthly or yearly passes?10:00 AM thru 3:00 PM on winter weekends, and holidays 9:00 AM thru 6:00 PM every day between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Cost - maybe $10.00 / day?
